Listen to the four songs, focus on the lyrics. You will hear four different ways of using the future tense.

Dingen die volgens schema gaan gebeuren.

De kans is heel erg groot dat dit gaat gebeuren.

dingen die gepland zijn en vrijwel zeker gaan gebeuren (omdat er bijvoorbeeld al iets voor is geregeld of klaargezet)

Als het plan er al was vóór het gesprek of bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een aanwijzing. 

Door de aanwijzing is er een aannemelijke kans dat het gaat gebeuren maar heel zeker weet je het niet. 

Bij bijvoorbeeld een belofte.

Je weet het niet zeker maar je denkt wel dat het gaat gebeuren.

The future - toekomst

There are four ways we can speak about the future.

 

1. Present simple

   - voor dingen die vast liggen in een schema

   - Heel waarschijnlijk dat dit gaat gebeuren

                                "The train leaves at 8:15"

2. Present continuous

   - dingen die gepland zijn (je hebt er bijvoorbeeld al dingen voor geregeld)

   - vrijwel zeker dat dit gaat gebeuren

                                "I'm meeting him this afternoon"

Future tense:

My bus _________ at three o'clock.

1. is leaving
2. leaves

Future tense:

We ________ a party on Saturday.

1. are having

The future - toekomst

3. to be going to + hele werkwoord

      - Als het plan er al was vóór het gesprek

      - Er hoeft nog niets concreet voor geregeld te zijn

                                 "I'm going to buy new clothes this afternoon"

        - Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een aanwijzing

        - Je denkt te weten wat er gaat gebeuren

                                "Tim said that he is going to listen to some live music tonight"

4. Will/shall + hele werkwoord

   - als het plan ontstaat tijdens het gesprek

                            "If she starts crying, we'll leave, OK?"

    - Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een mening, of onzekerheid

    - Vaak in combinatie met "I (don't) think, probably of possibly.

                            "I don't think Dad will be angry"

    - Bij feiten of dingen die zo vaak gebeuren dat je ze eigenlijk altijd wel kunt verwachten

                           "A well-mannered child will hold the door for an elderly person."

   - Bij een spontaan aanbod, weigering, beloftes, voorstellen of verzoeken: 

                           "Will you get me a chair please?"

  - Shall wordt gebruikt gebruikt in vragende zinnen

                            "Shall I help you with your bags?"
