Difficult words

Context clues

Is there any information around the word that helps us understand the word itself?

Replace with synonym 

Could another word fit in the difficult word's place and still make sense?

"Bill felt remorse for his harsh words."  -> "Bill felt bad for his harsh words." "Bill felt shame for his harsh words."

Recognize the word

Have you heard the word somewhere else before?

"The teacher incentivized her students to work harder."        

Look it up!

Is the word necessary to understand the text or to answer a question? Look it up in a dictionary!
