Future tense

Goals 

At the end of this lesson you can:

- You can recognise forms of the future tense.

- You can use the forms of the future tense on your own.

What verbs do the English use
to talk about the future (4 answers!)?

Will + infinitive (= hele ww)

• Beloftes/weigering/voornemens op het moment van spreken: I will help you with your homework. 
• Plan wat tijdens gesprek ontstaan: If it stars raining, we'll go inside, okay?
  
• Voorspellingen gebaseerd op een mening (probably / possibly / I don't think): I don't think they will win the match 
• Na wens/voorspelling/belofte/gedachte: I think that he will phone me

Will vs Shall

• Bij I & we in gewone zinnen, mag je beide gebruiken. 
• In vraagzinnen met I/we MOET je shall gebruiken, tenzij je om informatie vraagt.
• Will + not = won't 
• Voorbeelden: I will/shall be rich some day.                                Shall we go to the cinema? 

to be (am, is, are)+ going to + infinitive

- Intentie/Plannen zijn al bedacht (things we intend to do):

I am going to visit aunt Betsy tomorrow.

Present Continuous = am, is, are + ww+ ing

Plannen waarvoor de voorbereidingen al gedaan zijn (arrangements or appointments).

We are having dinner at a restaurant at 6.30. (made reservations)

I am flying to Paris next week. (bought the tickets)

Present Simple ww / ww+(e)s

Als er sprake is van vaste tijden (roosters, vertrek/aankomsttijden, openingstijden, starttijden van evenementen):

The stores close at six.

The plane leaves in ten minutes.

School starts at 8.15.

This lesson finishes at 14.00.

The train ... at 11.20.
