Components inside the CPU
ALU  (Arithmetic and Logic Unit)
Carries out calculations and comparisons (used in sorting and searching)
Store bytes of data which are used by the ALU

Registers --Store bytes of data which are used by the ALU
Also stores the address in RAM so the CPU knows where the next

Control Unit-Controls instructions being passed between RAM, registers and the ALU
Sends the result of the instructions to the other components

GPU (Graphical Processing Unit)
What is the Benefit to a CPU if a GPU is used?

Slide 11 - Question ouverte

Processing Data
The features of the CPU and GPU can affect performance and user experience.
Performance is how fast data is processed. User experience is the speed at which the  device appears to run to the user. A slow device can be very frustrating to a user!
Here are four factors that affect performance.

Slide 12 - Diapositive

Clock speed

Clock speed
The clock speed determines the speed of the processor.
One clock cycle will process one word  of data (see page 54 for more on words)
The clock speed is measured in MHz or GHz

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Slide 14 - Diapositive

Multiple Processing
Multiple processing cores
Processors often have multiple cores.
Each core can process simultaneously.

Slide 15 - Diapositive

Cache Memory
Cache memory is used between faster and slower devices to let them work more quickly together. For example, the processor has a cache memory to help speed up access to the slower RAM.

Slide 16 - Diapositive

Data buses
A data bus is a circuit which connects one part of the motherboard to another. The more data it can handle, the faster information can travel between components and the better the performance of the computer.
