Formative 2: theme analysis

In expert groups (2 to 4 students) students will create a presentation about 2 chosen themes.

Students can research the themes they want to discuss.   

success criteria 

- attention grabbing introduction

- a clear explanation of the themes and their impact on the book.

- a clear explanation of when these themes can be found in the book. 

- an explanation of which characters are most associated with the themes.

Formative 3: Literary devices

Students pick one of these three chapters:

Students will then start searching for the literary devices in the chapter.

success criteria 

- able to properly identify different literary devices 

- a clear explanation of the reasoning behind the literary devices. 

- 10 to 15 literary devices are identified in the chapter. The same literary devices cannot be used more than 3 times

 

How can we make students think about the cultural and historical aspects of the book?

Formative 4: cultural presentation 

Students create a presentation displaying the different aspects of culture within the book 

success criteria 

- presentation of 10 min 

- show creativity, for example, photos, drawings, etc.

- not reading from the presentation once presenting

Summative assessment

In groups, students will recreate one of the scenes from the book using these steps:

1. scene introduction: choosing an appropriate scene.

2. creating a character list: writing down all the characters in the scene. 

3. writing the script: write down what is said by who and how. 

4. scene building: creating the atmosphere of the scene and the sound effects necessary.
