  • Be informative, but concise (=beknopt)

  • Have a Thesis Statement
  • Use an anecdote (be personal!), statistics or a story to arouse interest. 
  • Close with a bridge to the text.

Abortion is a hot topic these days. About 28,000 people get an abortion in the Netherlands per year. Even so, many people raise their voices against this practise. Inform yourself on either perspective throughout this article.

Tips:
  • Start your paragraph with what you want to say in 1 sentence. Then elaborate by using examples, statistics, experience etc. 
  • Use linking words: For example, So, Therefore, Also, personally etc. (always write a comma after?)

Tips:
  • Make sure your main points made in the text are in your conclusion. 
  • Make sure there is no new information in the conclusion. 
  • Optional: End on a good closing sentence (creative writing).

Not start a sentence with 'And' --> Use linking word
Don't say "I think" --> This sounds much more confident:
I think gaming can connect people through shared interests. 
Gaming can connect people through shared interests. 
Try to avoid the words 'thing(s)' and 'stuff'. 
Be mindful of your punctuation. (interpunctie)
