Inequality between rich and poor was God's plan.
Robert Owen did not agree with this:
- He pays his workers a higher wage
- Limit of 8 hours work a day
- Builds good houses
- Children could go to school

Robert Owen is one of the founders of
socialism.
Socialists believe the government must make sure that people are more equal and protect the weak and poor.
There should be laws that protect labourers and give them rights.

a economic and political system that is focussed on equality and on protection of the weak in society by the government.

They started
trade unions

They could strike and demand more rights.
Factory owners would fire workers who went to strikes and protests, they also used violence.
