In class today: Listening practice 

You are going to listen to a (video of) a podcast. It is basically two guys chatting about sports. You are going to listen for the gist of the conversation.

Gist = the substance or general meaning of a speech or text. So no details.

During the video; answer some questions about the gist off the conversation

How does it work?

The task

You are going to watch an explainer about American Football, take notes of the rules as if you will be playing the game in PE class.

Don't worry if you don't understand everything. Just focus on the main points.

After the video you will have two minutes to organize your notes and discuss with a classmate, then there will be a set of questions to answer.

Note-taking tips

• Write phrases, not full sentences. Only record the key words that you need to get the idea of the point.

• Take notes in your own words.

• Underline, circle, star, etc. to identify key information, examples, definitions, or other important materials. 
  

• If you miss something, write key words, skip a few spaces, and get the information later.
