Today's goals
  1. You can name the 4 spheres and explain what they mean.
  2. The landscape is a consequence of the influence of the four spheres. You can give an
example of all four spheres and how they influence / shape the landscape (see also G93,
    94).
  3. Explain how in Normandy, for example, the white cliff coasts are formed (see also G91).

Sedimentary coast

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Sedimentary coast
Coast where the waves leave more material behind than they take away.

Slide 7 - Diapositive

You can explain how the height and strength of a wave is determined.
"Movement in a body of water, usually caused by wind blowing over the surface."
Height and strenght depend on three factors:
  1. Wind force
  2. Length of time that the wind blows
  3. Distance travelled by waves

Slide 17 - Diapositive

How are erosion coasts formed?
Take figure 16 in front of you:
1. Waves are crashing onto the lower layers of the cliff.
2. Because of erosion, a hole is formed in the cliff.
3. Salt crystals are left behind in the holes in the cliff.
4. Salt crystals stick together. Because of this, holes and cracks are growing.
5. Holes in the cliff are becoming too big; upper parts are becoming too heavy.
6. A part of the cliff is breaking off.
