As an officer, he is brave and inspires his men. He is awarded the Military Cross.

What happens afterwards?
After getting wounded a second time, Sassoon writes an open letter protesting against the war, which is published in The Times.
This act could have been considered treason, but he avoids punishment and is sent to a mental hospital in Scotland instead, to be treated for shell shock.
After the war, he continues to write both prose and poetry. He dies in 1967.

Learned to care for people as a vicar's assistant
Joined the army in 1917
Spent some time at a mental hospital because of shell shock, where he met Siegfried Sassoon
Wrote many letters to his mother
Was killed in action on November 4, 1918, just one week before the end of the war. He was 25 years old.
