Protons (postively charged)
Neutrons (neutrally charged)
Electrons (negatively charged)

Inside an atom:
An
uncharged atom
has an equal amount of protons and electrons.
Electrons move about in the space around the nucleus. Therefore, they can easily jump from one atom to another one.
Protons can't move, since they can't leave the nucleus.
If an atom receives or gives away electrons, the atom becomes
charged.
