PAST SIMPLE

What	Past simple
When	Als iets in het verleden is gebeurd (en geëindigd). Als iets in het verleden regelmatig is gebeurd (gewoonten).
How/Form	Add –ed OR an irregular form.
Signal words	Yesterday, last week, last month, two days ago, four days ago, months ago, a second ago, etc.
Examples	He walked her home last night. I talked to him on the phone yesterday. She tried to close her book but a fly got caught in between the pages.

What	Past continuous
When	Iets heeft een tijdje geduurd: - de lange actie -> past continuous - de korte actie -> past simple Om irritatie uit te drukken.
How/Form	was/were + verb + ing
Signal words	when, as, while, always, constantly, forever, all the time, continually
Examples	I was jogging down the street when someone stopped me. I was making dinner when the door opened . When the phone rang , I was doing the dishes.

Present Perfect

What	Present perfect
When	- Iets is in het verleden begonnen en is nog steeds gaande. - Iets is in het verleden gebeurd en de nadruk ligt op het resultaat. - Iets is in het verleden gebeurd, maar het is niet duidelijk of belangrijk wanneer precies. - Iets is echt zojuist gebeurd.
How/Form	Has/have + voltooid deelwoord
Signal words	Always, never, ever, for, since, how long, so, because, just, today
Examples	They have visited Paris multiple times since covid ended. They have always ordered sushi because they love it. Mr President has just left the meeting.
