• By the end of this class, you can reflect on Shylock's character & know the relationships between the characters in the Merchant of Venice. 

In the end, what is Shylock's fate?

1. He leaves his money to his daughter in his will and is killed by Antonio and his friends
2. He leaves his money to his daughter in his will and agrees to become Christian.
3. He refuses to become Christian and is therefore banished from Venice
4. He accepts to become Christian, but is eventually killed by Lorenzo.

Antonio and his friends are extremely happy and want to repay the lawyer and his clerk, but this lawyer and clerk agree to one type of payment which is......

1 What is the bond about? Who are the main characters and what is their relationship?

2. What  do the following words mean/refer to? 

- "catch him upon the hip"

- "the acient grudge"

- "sacred nation" and "curséd be my tribe" 

Literature analysis in groups  Act 1 + act 2 

1. Each group has received 1 discussion question

2. Try to formulate an answer to this question by using what you have seen in the previous video, the synopsis and the two passages in your handout. 

3. Write down your answer on a piece of paper. 

4. We will discuss the answers.

• Thursday: more discussion questions in class and analysis of The Merchant of Venice.

- je mag voor één vak dat je volgt bij de lenteschool een herkansing doen voor een toets uit periode 2. Voor Engels is dat de leestoets (4x) trimester 2.

- Open vragen = in het Nederlands antwoorden. 

- Zorg dat je één antwoord opschrijft (check altijd even na afloop of je niet twee antwoorden hebt genoteerd. Voorbeeld vraag 13: noteer het nummer van de juiste conclusie en de letter van het bijpassende ondersteunende citaat. Velen schreven beiden conclusies op + koppelden dit aan de citaten. 

- vraag 26: "een antwoord met de volgende strekking: kennis over hoe menselijk gedrag tot stand komt/bepaald wordt door kennis over fysiologische processen in de hersenen."
