Slide 14 - Question ouverte

Emails (Outlook)
Microsoft Outlook is an email  service for communication. At The Garibaldi School, it allows teachers and students to manage emails.

You can use email to send text, images and files to another person.

Slide 15 - Diapositive

Email Structure
Do you know the structure of a formal email?

Slide 16 - Diapositive

Subject
Message Body
sign off
Salutation
concluding sentence
Introduction
Recipent address

Slide 17 - Question de remorquage

Do!
  • Have a clear Subject
  • Have a professional salutation (not hey, yo, hiya etc)
  • Proofread your email before you send it
  • Use it as you would use a letter

Slide 18 - Diapositive

Don't!
  • Treat email like social media messaging !
  •  write too much. Be precise and brief
  • Use slang/humour as it can be lost in reading
  • Send inappropriate messages to peers as all student emails are scanned / monitored by the school system.

Slide 19 - Diapositive

Other considerations
When you know the person:
  • Either first name or
  • Ms or Mr using surname (do not use Mrs or Miss)
  • Start your message with a positive (eg I hope you are well)
When you don't know them:
  • Use Dear Sir/Madam
  • Start the email with who you are (My name is.....)

  • An introduction
  • The message body itself
  • And finally a signoff

DO NOT SEND UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO BY YOUR TEACHER!!!
