What was the past simple ?

To tell something happened yesterday, last week, last month, last year, five year ago.
 verb+ed = past simple.

Past simple - regular
If the verb ends in a short vowel + one consonant, you double that consonant when you add -ed.


(to stop) He stopped to take a picture.
(to grab) They grabbed the food off the floor.

If the verb ends in a consonant + -y, you replace that -y with -ied.
