Om de past simple te maken, voeg je -(e)d to aan het werkwoord. (regelmatige werkwoorden)

I waited at the gate. 
My mum liked my new swimsuit a lot. 
We changed flights in London.

Bij onregelmatige werkwoorden verandert de vorm van het werkwoord. 

Zo wordt bijvoorbeeld:
go - went
think - thought
take - took

Er zijn drie manieren om in de past simple een vraag te maken: 
1:  was/were of een hulpww als could/would aan het begin van de zin.
- Was your mum in Italy two week ago?
- Were you happy to go back home?
- Could you take photos of the dolphins?

1:  Bij was/were of een hulpww als could/ would voeg je -n't (not)to aan het woord.
- She wasn't in Italy.
- Rick and Bo weren't happy to leave France.
- I couldn't see the Mona Lisa in Paris.

2:  Bij andere ontkenningen in de verleden tijd zet je didn't voor het hoofdwerkwoord. Na didn't komt altijd het hele werkwoord.
- I didn't bring my sunglasses.
- Lucy didn't like camping.
