At the end of this lesson...

• You can explain why Greek culture flourished in Athens.
• You can name various Greek art forms and you can use examples to describe them.

Ancient Greece

Greek Culture

• There were many differences between city states and people.
• But....
• They spoke the same language, worshipped the same Gods and built the same type of temples. 

A Golden age (from 500bc)

• Lots of cultural development! 
• Particularly in Athens, because it was rich and attracted many types of people. 
• They also had good education in language and culture (for boys...).

The Greek spread their culture. Alexander the Great was one of the most famous leaders who did so!

Because Roman and Greek culture are so similar that we know them under a combined name: Classical Culture. 

Exercise!

Find at least 2 examples which shows that the Greek and Roman cultures are very similar.
