- the three different administration (bestuurlijke) periodes in the Roman empire
- Describe: Who was in charge and what tasks they had.

First, about ruling the empire ...
  • History of the Roman empire can be divided into three political periods:
  1. Kingdom
  2. Republic (actually an aristocracy).
  3. Empire

1. Kingdom (8th century BC - 509 BC)
 Rome was a city-state. It was ruled by a king/monarch and the senate.

2) Republic (509 BC - 27 BC): The king was replaced with two consuls. The senate was still in charge (it was actually an aristocracy).
Consuls: Executive power in Rome.

3) Empire (27 BC - 476 AD): An emperor (imperator) replaced the consuls. He was assisted by the senate.

The city of Rome begins to conquer parts of Italy. 
Go to page 55 in your book.

What: Read 'An invincible army' and write down 4 reasons how the Roman army became so succesful.
How: with help from your book (page 55-56).
Need help?: First, ask your neighbour. Then raise your finger.
