Mesopotamia, which means between two rivers, was the location of many ancient civilizations.

Mesopotamia was also in the area of the fertile cresent. 

Sumerian civilization developend near Sumer, especialy because of irrigration techniques.

People stated to specialize in jobs: crafting, pottery and constuction.

People started to live in permanent settlements called the city states. Each city state was dedicated to a different god. 

There were many improvements in architechture, such as the ziggurat.
