Why an Active?

1. The 'object' of an action is made important.

Active: People make most cars in Asia.

Passive: Most cars are made in Asia.

Why a Passive?

2. The 'agent' of an action is unknown or irrelevant.

Active: The police arrest many thieves in supermarkets.

Passive: Many thieves in supermarkets are arrested (by the police).

Rewrite Ac-->Pa or Pa-->Ac

You may leave out the 'by-phrase' in the Passive sentences.

The dog eats a cookie.

The bag is packed by his mother.

Coffee is sold by Marie.

John cleans the bathroom.

My brothers give the present.
