The art of giving the perfect speech

Slide 1 - Diapositive

Elements of a perfect speech

Slide 2 - Carte mentale

Goals
1. To write a clear and strong speech in English about a topic, discussed in an article. The focus should be on what you think about that certain subject
2. To convince an audience by using a variety of literary devices and speech features.

Last but not least:

3. To do well on your 2T.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Keep in mind:
- Your main task is to say what you have to say on the topic of the article.
- You pay attention to speaking skills (tone, speech. features, literary devices, etc.)
- You pay attention to non-verbal factors [STAGE DIRECTIONS] (e.g. eye contact, gestures]
- Your speech contains an introduction, a body and a conclusion
- In your introduction you attract your audience’s attention with a question, an anecdote or a oneliner (not… “my speech is about”)
- Your information is presented clearly and the point you have made is easily understood
- Your speech contains information that comes from you, so do not say 'the text in ... says that...'
- Your opinion is illustrated with examples from everyday life, etc..
- Your choice of vocabulary is appropriate > (semi-)formal > NO contracted verb forms, appropriate register, etc.
- KISS
