  • I know which organs the food goes through and what happens in those organs with the food
  • I know the three different types of teeth and what they are used for.
  • I understand the difference between a carnivore, omnivore and herbivore and can recognize them by their teeth

Ingestion
  • Ingestion is putting food in your mouth.
  • Chewing: breaks food down into smaller pieces and mixes it with saliva.
  • Swallowing: the food goes to your esophagus, this tube leads the food to your stomach.
  • Your saliva contains enzymes that help to start the digestion of your food.
  • Enzymes are molecules that help break down your food.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

Teeth
There are 3 different types of teeth that help with this process:

Incisors - front teeth that bite off pieces of food
Canines - also help bite off food, predators
use them to hold their prey.
Molars - back teeth that grind our food into smaller pieces

Digestion
  • Digestion is the process of breaking
down large molecules into smaller ones.
  • The organs that do this are called
        your digestive system.
  • Most digestion with enzymes happens in
the oesophagus, stomach and small intestine.

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Enzymes
Amylase:  in saliva

Protease:  gastric juice

Lipase:   small intestine

Slide 12 - Diapositive

Absorbtion
  • After most of the digestion is done , the nutrients get absorbed.
  • Most nutrients are absorbed in the  small intestine.
  • Water and a few final vitamins are absorbed in the large intestine.

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Egestion
  • Egestion is the process of removing waste products (pooping)
  • Anything your body cannot absorb is combined to form faeces. (scientific work for poop)
  • This faeces is moved towards your rectum and stored there till you go to the toilet.
