Do you think it was fun to be a child in the Victorian Era?
😒🙁😐🙂😃

Slide 11 - Sondage

Childhood in Victorian Era
It wasn't fun being a child in the 19th century!

Here's why:
- A lot of babies and children died because of diseases.
- Some parents sold their children for money, if they had too many and because they were so poor ...
- There was child labour.

Slide 12 - Diapositive

What is child labour?

Slide 13 - Carte mentale

Childhood in Victorian Era
What is child labour?

It wouldn't be enough for parents to both earn money, so the children would work too. The children would work on farms and in factories.
They would do the work that grown ups couldn't do (because they had smaller hands).

Slide 14 - Diapositive

Childhood in Victorian Era
Some children (often orphans), lived on the streets. They were called "street urchins."

Lots of these children became criminals (burglars and pickpockets)

Childhood in Victorian Era
Even if you went to school, it wasn't that great.

School was simply repeating the things that the teacher said. You would learn reading and writing, and sometimes history and math. Girls learned cookery and taking care of babies, and boys learned farming.
And... teachers could hit students!!
