§9.2 Solving equations.

It is so IMPORTANT to LEARN how to 

SOLVE LINEAR EQUATIONS

at once IN A GOOD WAY!

That's why we'll PRACTICE it once more, now.

First some explanation: 

Solve 8(x-8) = 12x + 5(x + 7 )

Use arrows at the sides.

Solve 8(x-8) = 12x + 5(x + 7 )

Solve this equation; use arrows!!

Example 1:       Solve: 

1. take together the like terms (not the case here)

2. take away 10 bags of marbles on one side.   RESULT:

Solve:  14n + 8 = 10n + 24

• 3. take away 8 loose marbles on one side.   RESULT:  

Solve:      14n + 8 = 10n + 24

4. calculate n by dividing by 4:

Example 2:                   Solve: 

What is the 1st step to take?

One more 'new' thing ..... (exerc. 16)

Using 'brackets' is

not really new, of course,

but it is, in an equation.

It just asks for one more step:

The new 1st step now becomes:  REMOVE THE BRACKETS.
