Let's talk about the Future!

Future tense: to be going to

am/are/is + (not) going to + werkwoord

Gebruik je om aan te geven dat je van plan bent iets te gaan doen.

We are going to watch a movie tonight.

My mom is going to buy new clothes next week.

You are going to learn your vocabulary for the testweek.

Regel

De Future gebruik je als je over de toekomst praat. Dat kan op
deze manieren: present simple, present continuous, will/shall + ww

- The bus arrives at 9:15. It's now 9 o'clock , so no need to rush.   

- I am celebrating my birthday on Saturday. 

- I will visit my grandmother/Shall I help you with your  homework tomorrow? 

present simple future

De present simple future gebruik je bij toekomst dingen die volgens een schema gebeuren, of zo ingeroosterd zijn.

Vorm van de present simple (she-he-it rule!)

 

- The movie starts at 20:15, we have time to buy popcorn first.

- This lesson finishes in 30 minutes. 

Future will/shall

De future vorm will + heel ww en shall + heel ww wordt gebruikt om iets aan te bieden, iets te beloven, of om voorspellingen te maken. 

-The teacher will help you.

- I promise, I will do the dishes tonight. 

- I predict I will ace this test, I studied so hard! 

- Shall I walk the dog tonight? 

present continuous future

De present continuous future gebruik je bij toekomstplannen die afgesproken en geregeld zijn, ze staan al vast. 

                                        Am/are/is + ww+ ing

- Julio is doing homework at Studiekring this afternoon, so he can't meet up. 

- I'm spending the weekend at my dad's house, so I need to bring my laptop with me. 

Let op!

Je kende al een future vorm: to be going to. Deze lijkt op hoe de present continuous future gebruikt wordt, maar is wel anders:

- plan wat vast staat = present continuous future

    I'm playing videogames after school, I need to relax. 

- plan wat niet vast staat, een intentie = to be going to + ww

    I am going to buy a new car soon

Fill in the future tense:
