The President is the leader of America
The President is different from a king because he is not the only one in charge. He has to work together with other workers in the government to get things done.
The President is also different from a king because he is not born a president.

The president lives in a special building called the White House in Washington D.C.
Being the president is a very hard job. The Bible tells us that we should pray for and respect the people who are in charge of us (1 Peter 2:17, 1 Timothy 2:1-2).

George Washington He was born in Virginia in 1732.
He was a general that helped to win the revolutionary war. This meant that America was finally its own country.
George Washington became the first president of the new country in 1789.

What was he famous for?
Thomas Jefferson was born in Virginia in 1743. He lived around the same time that George Washington lived and knew him well.
He was the main author of the Declaration of Independence, which said America was its own country and was free from Britain.

Jefferson also served as the first Secretary of State, which was a very important job.
He became the third president in 1801.
Jefferson is also on the nickel.

Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809 in a log cabin in Kentucky.
He became the 16th president in 1861, when the Civil War was happening.
Abraham Lincoln was a good leader during the war.

One of Lincoln's greatest achievements was the Emancipation Proclamation, which led to the end of slavery in America.

What was he famous for?
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York in 1858.
He became the 26th president in 1901 and was the first president to call the presidential home "the White House."
Theodore Roosevelt wanted to protect nature. He created many national parks and national landmarks and protected animals and forests.

He began work on the Panama Canal. When the canal was finished, it was much easier to trade goods with other countries.
Teddy bears are named after Theodore Roosevelt, who sometimes went by "Teddy."

Joe Biden was born in Pennsylvania in 1942. He is 79, making him the oldest president in American history.
He was the Vice President from 2009-2017 when Barack Obama was president.
He became president in 2021 and is our president today. He will be president until 2024 when Americans decide who the next president will be.
