Word Order

Adjectives of Time, Place, Manner & Frequency

Tijd (wanneer) kan ook aan het begin van de zin:
voor extra nadruk.

Adverbs of place & time

Waar? Adverbs of place and time komen altijd achteraan in de zin.

Eerst de plaats en dan de tijd -> PvT (plaats voor tijd):

We are going to swim in the lake tomorrow.

My parents are in Nijmegen today.

I am seeing Pink's new concert at the Ziggo Dome in July.

Maar:

Als het extra belangrijk is om te vermelden wanneer iets gebeurde, dan zet je de verwijzing naar tijd helemaal vooraan in de zin - met een komma:

In July, we are seeing Pink's new concert in the Ziggo Dome.

On Sunday, the minister announced that schools would be closed for three weeks.

Shall we meet at 4pm on Monday?

Adverbs of frequency

Geven aan hoe vaak iets gebeurt.

Waar?  Voor het hoofdwerkwoord 

We always start  the day with breakfast.

Maar:

Als er am/are/is/was/were (vormen van "to be") in de zin staat komt de adverb of frequency achter het hoofdwerkwoord.

He is always late.

We are usually on time. 

Adverbs of manner

Geven aan hoe iets gebeurt.

Hoe? Bijvoegelijk naamwoord + ly (meestal)

Waar?  Voor het bijvoeglijk naamwoord, bijwoord of hoofdwerkwoord.

That is a very nice guy.

He reads really quickly.

He awkwardly sat next to each other.

Opdracht:

Zet bij de volgende opdracht alle woorden in de juiste volgorde om een goede zin te maken. Zorg dat je elke zin begint met een hoofdletter en eindigt met een punt.
