Relative Pronouns

Betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden: who, which, that, where, when, whose, whom

Functie: 

• Zinnen aan elkaar koppelen. 
  
• Je verwijst ermee naar personen, dieren of dingen die al eerder genoemd zijn.

• Verbinden twee zinsdelen aan elkaar

I’ll never forget the day when we went hiking in the mountains.

The teacher, who won the lottery, went on vacation (that mag hier niet!)

WHOM = na een voorzetsel (formeel gebruik)

Relative pronouns

Je kunt een betrekkelijk voornaamwoord weglaten behalve als het volgende woord een werkwoord is

That is the teacher who I don't like. 
That is the teacher I don't like.

The flowers  which he gave me were beautiful.
The flowers he gave me were beautiful.

Persoonlijk: ik, jij, hij, etc.

Bezittelijk: mijn, zijn, onze, etc.

Wederkerend: me, je, zich, etc.

Je kunt een betrekkelijk voornaamwoord weglaten behalve als het volgende woord een werkwoord is

That is the teacher who won the lottery. 

In deze zin kun je who niet weglaten!

Persoonlijk: ik, jij, hij, etc.

Bezittelijk: mijn, zijn, onze, etc.

Wederkerend: me, je, zich, etc.
