Contraceptives literally means "to stop conception", which means to stop fertilisation.
Nowadays contraceptives can also be used to stop the spread of diseases.

This create a physical wall between the sperm cells and egg cells, this sometimes also protects against STD's.

An IUD is a small, T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

Sterilisation is a permanent form of birth control that either prevents a woman from getting pregnant or prevents a man from releasing sperm.
