Wanneer:       Was in het verleden aan de gang


Hoe:                Was/Were + werkwoord met -ING

Bij X:        --> Wasn't/Weren't + werkwoord met -ING

Bij ?:        --> Was/Were vooraan in de zin, + ww met -ING    

I was walking                                 Was he walking?

We weren't walking                     Were you walking?

Past Simple + Past Continuous

- Komen vaak samen voor in 1 zin

- Er is dan iets aan de gang (P.C.), en dat wordt onderbroken door een (korte) actie (P.S.)

- Vaak staat het woord when of while dan in de zin:


         I was walking, when a pidgeon attacked me!

        While I was walking, a pidgeon attacked me!

Persoon + have/has + voltooid deelwoord + rest van de zin.


I + have + worked + here since 2016.

She + has + lived + in the Netherlands for 3 years now.

For and Since
Both these time expressions are frequently used with the Present Perfect to answer the question How Long.......?
  • We use for with a period of time:  an hour, two weeks
  • We use since with a point in time: 2017, May

NOT: I'VE BEEN HERE SINCE TWO MONTHS
