Aspire: List a range of components that are found in a computer and explain their function.

Hardware components guide 
  • You are going to create a guide of all the hardware components we use inside of a computer.

  • This guide will contain information about what each part does along with images for reader to look at.

ROM
  • ROM stands for Read Only Memory

  • ROM stores all the information we need to start the computer, such as the operating system.

  • This is ROM, it’s a small chip attached to the motherboard.

Task 1: Find an image of the ROM and place onto the ROM slide.

Task 2: State what ROM is short for and what it does.

Extension: Research what happens if we delete data from ROM

If students finish the 2 tasks and the extension, ask them to design their hardware guide, or a cover slide to introduce it., 
RAM (Random Access Memory) 
  • Every program that is being run by the computer (such as Google Chrome, Spotify or Microsoft Word) is stored in RAM.

RAM is volatile, Data is lost when turned off. This is why you lose work when you computer is turned of without saving.

  • Its very important that when the PC is running we keep everything cool.

  • Most fans come with a remote to alter their speed, but this can be automatically done by the computer as it detects the temperature rising.
