In het Engels gebruik je It of They als vervanging van het zelfst.nw : house, dog, cat, pencil). 

• It gebruik je wanneer het zelfst.nw enkelvoud is:
  The cat lies on the chair. It is really sweet.
• They gebruik je bij meervoudige dingen.
  Look at the flowers.   They smell really sweet.
• Let op een aantal woorden zijn altijd in het meervoud
