As an introduction to the theme of this unit I would like to introduce to you a typical kind of street performing tradition which is called busking. 'Busking' is the activity of playing music in the street or another public place for voluntary donations. In capital cities , such as London and New York, you often find buskers in the Underground/subway area where they are certain of a mass audience (millions of travellers very day) and a great resonance. This is the place to be if you want your talent(s) to be discovered, but sometimes travellers are in for a surprise ........  Watch the following videos.

Now that you're in the mood, let's proceed with your work.  So, how to go about your work for the best results?

  • Write your answers in a notebook and don't use separate sheets of paper   (these tend to get lost). Sometimes you will be asked to take a picture of your work/answers to send it to your teacher, who will thus be able to      monitor both your diligence and progress.
  • Don't only spend time on doing exercises; you also need time to study         (vocabulary and theory)!!
  • Also take time to learn from your mistakes, especially when you're asked  to check your own work; your learning process is not about speed but      about understanding and growing insight and knowledge.

- ex. 1: read the questions of exercise 1 and think of the answers ; write these down in your NB (=notebook). Make sure to answer in full sentences.                                                                                                      - ex. 2: follow the instructions and write your answers down                  - ex. 3: do this exercise according to the instructions but on your own and not in pairs. Write down 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages                                                                                                    -- ex. 4, 5: listen, answer and check

Slide 8 - Diapositive

p.60 (continued)
- ex.4: do this exercise individually. Write down the paraphrases* you heard (which helped you to choose your answer) in your notebook. Remember that the MC questions will never use the same vocabulary as used on the recording, so the best way to go about finding the right answers is to find paraphrases.

*a paraphrase = expressing the same idea (on recording) but using other words (in question and answers) to do so.

Slide 9 - Diapositive

p. 8 Grammar

Now do some exercises to find out whether you really understand how to use the different verbs that express future tense. Go to the site (next slide) and quickly read the theory before doing tests 1 and 2.

Once you've finished the questions (8 per test), click on 'finish' at the bottom of the page and find out how you did. If necessary, you could click on 'feedback' or 'try again'. Good luck!!
