What is a Notice? Why do we write notices?

A Notice is a short , printed or a hand written announcement  about some events to a specific group of people.
The purpose of a notice is to announce or display information to a specific group of people.

  • The language used must be lucid and in third person, i.e. pronouns like I, me, you, mine, your etc should not be used.
  • Usually present tense or future tense is used.
  • Enclose the content of the notice in a box.
  • Be precise and to the point. The ideal length of notice is 50 words.
  • A notice should include some value points (necessary details) in order to make it precise and effective.

The Notice Writing Format should include NAME OF THE INSTITUTION / ISSUING AUTHORITY / NOTICE / TITLE, DATE, and WRITER’S NAME WITH DESIGNATION.
  A notice should contain all the necessary details such as:
  • Name of the issuing agency (school, etc)
  • Date of issue/release of the notice
  • Title/Subject of the Event (what?)
  • BODY-Date/time/duration/Place/Venue (when and where?)
  • Authorized signatory: Name and signature (contact details)
