Lesson Objectives

You know what high and low pressure areas are and whether the air pressure there is higher or lower than elsewhere.

• You can explain what the wind direction, wind speed and wind force are.

• You can explain how winds arise.

• You can explain why wind has a cooling effect.

• You can explain why air is a thermal insulator.

High pressure 

- Area in which the air pressure is higher than the pressure outside the area.

- The weather in a high pressure area is generally calm and sunny.  

- If the air pressure is rising, that is a sign that the weather will improve

- It is shown with a capital H
