Conventions:
  • own address
  • date
  • recipient (address)
  • salutation
  • introduction (why)
  • body (what/how etc)
  • closing salutation
  • your name

Process:
  1. Read the assignment & underline key words => letter / email / other
  2. Recipient (who receives it) => formal/informal
  3. Check mandatory elements; subjects, word count etc.
  4. Read information
  5. Write letter/email/other

Strategies:
    1. Use as many words from the assignment
    2. Use dictionary
    3. Use blancs / Dutch words
    4. Learn conventions by heart
    5. Memorise common sentences

Elements:
  • referencing words; chronological order, possessive pronouns, personal pronouns 
  • linkers for contrast = however, even though, although, on the other hand, while, whereas & despite (ex 4 p 24)
  • paraphrasing; using different words to tell the same message

    1. Capitals
    2. Full stops, commas etc
    3. Conventions; own address, recipient, date, blanc lines, salutation, closing salutation, own name
    4. Mandatory elements
    5. Count words = list word count
