How we build sentences using the right kinds of words.

Let's look at the following sentence:

The cat sat on the mat.

1. the subject (het onderwerp) comes at the start:
   The cat is 11 years old.
   He walks to school.
   
   
2. the verb(s) (werkwoord) comes after the subject:
   She works every day.
   John likes Mary.

What is the subject?
'Mary likes playing games.'

4. Mary

3. the object =(lijdend voorwerp) who or what the subject does something to.
     the object comes after the verb(s). 
     He walks to school.

     John likes Mary.
     I work at a school.

We can find out what the object is when we make the sentence a question:

Where does he walk to? - school

Who does John like? - Mary

What is the object?
'John married Mary last year.'

Time goes at the beginning or the end of a sentence:
I start working around 8 o'clock.

Around 8 o'clock, I start working.

Place goes at the end of the sentence, but before time:
I start working at school around 8 o'clock.

Around 8 o'clock, I start working at school.

Is this sentence correct?
'At school, I start working at 8 o'clock.'

1. Yes
2. No

Correct the sentence:
'At school, I start working at 8 o'clock.'

Write down 3 sentences about yourself.

Write down 2 sentences using place and time.
