How did Black history month originate?

Black History Month is a month set aside to learn to honor and celebrate the achievements of black men and women throughout history. This is celebrated in America and Canada in February and for the UK it is in October.

- In 1955 Rosa Parks refused to get up
- Arrested for breaking law
- Started a movement: a boycott!
- Through her action became a law
adopted for public transport

Started in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson

Main goal: recognition and importance for black 
history, which wasn't included in regular (white) books and taught in public schools in the USA.

BHM in Netherlands is in October.
