Steps to Reported Speech

Synthia said, 'I saw the new Batman last night'

• Step 1: Remove the comma, remove the quotations marks,     add 'that'.
• Step 2: Backshift the verb 
• Step 3: Change the point-of-view words

Synthia said that she had seen the new Batman the night before
