Listening

Slide 1 - Diapositive

Het doel van de les van vandaag is het werken aan luisterstrategieën.

We bespreken eerst handige tips.
Daarna luisteren we naar een expert.

En oefenen we met luistervaardigheid.

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Which listening strategy do you already use?

Welke tips geeft Leanne?

Slide 5 - Question ouverte

Tips die Leanne geeft:
- Oefening baart kunst
- Ga series of een film kijken. Iedere dag een paar minuten naar het nieuws kijken werkt ook. Of korte fragmenten in het Engels.
- Schrijf woorden op die je denkt te horen of die je herkent. Je mag altijd aantekeningen maken op een kladblaadje.
- Doe je ogen dicht
- Vul altijd iets in

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Choose fast
You only have a limited amount of time to answer the question AND
read the next question and answers.

Slide 7 - Diapositive

Underline/Higlight
It helps the brain to focus.

You will be allowed to underline on your actual test booklet, so use that opportunity.

Only underline single words or short phrases.

Slide 8 - Diapositive

Close your eyes
May sound a bit weird, but it helps you focus more on the sounds.

Especially useful when speakers have an accent or there is background noise.

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Listen for key words
If the question asks about the speaker's opinion look out for phrases like: I think..., in my opinion..., but what's most important..., etc.

Don't get distracted by extra bits that are not relevant for the answer.

Slide 10 - Diapositive

The basic meaning
If there is a word in the answer or the question that you don't know try to guess what that word could mean.

Is it negative or positive?
Is it similar to a word in English or Dutch that you do know the meaning of?

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Practice makes perfect
It really does, but only if you practice AND REFLECT.

By that I don't mean check the answers. I mean check the answers and listen again to see what you missed and why you missed it.

Did you not focus well enough? (practice focussing)
Did you not understand a key word? (study/learn more vocabulary)
