Go to the Wikipedia page of a Red Squirrel (gewone eekhoorn) and find out how it is classified. 

(Kingdom, Phyla, Class, Order, Family, Genera and Species)

Name the group where it is sorted it on all levels and name one characteristic that all the animals in that group have. 

Write it all down in your notebook.

What are we going to learn today?

We will be learning:

What the differences between animals are. 

What symmetry is and how you can see this in animals. 

What different types of skeletons an animal can have are.

Symmetry

When you have an object that is the same on one side and the other side, you have symmetry. 

If you put a mirror at the symmetry line you would see the exact same object again.

Animals can be symmetrical as well! You have 3 types of symmetry: 

1. Bilateral symmetry

2. Radial symmetry

3. Asymmetry 

Skeleton

The way an animal has a skeleton can also be very different. The function can range from sturdiness to protection. 

There are 2 types of skeletons:

Endoskeleton

The skeleton is on the inside of the animal. 

Exoskeleton

The skeleton is on the outside of the animal. 

An animal can also have no skeleton
