Quantifiers

We use quantifiers to give information on the amount of something.

few 

little

a lot of/ lots of

Few:

 a small number of something

 and

 few means there aren’t many of the items. 

(A) few is only used with countable nouns.

I bought a few shirts today. 

She has few dresses because she only wears jeans.

(a) little:

when there is a small amount 

or almost nothing of something. 

(A) little is used with uncountable nouns.

There is little you can do about it. 

She takes a little bit of milk in her tea.

a lot of/ lots of

when there is a large number of something. 

both forms are used with countable and uncountable nouns.

A lot of / Lots of students like to go shopping. 

He sprayed a lot of / lots of perfume on my shirt.

Tip!

Much / many and some / any are also quantifiers.
