What you’ll learn: How to implement your organisation’s branding in LessonUp
Duration: 20 minutes

🏠 Incorporating your branding

As an organisation, you want people to recognise you. One way to achieve this is by applying your branding consistently across your lessons. Here are some tips to make your lessons recognisable.

Logo
Add your logo to the first and last slides or even to every slide. Click on '+ Components' and choose 'Image'. Upload your logo from your device, then drag it to the desired location.

Adding colours
LessonUp allows you to add your organisation’s colours to a personalised palette. These colours will be linked to your account and automatically available for use in all your lessons. You can apply them to both text and backgrounds. When colleagues use one of your slides with these colours, they are able to use them too.

How does it work?
  • Click the Colour button in the editing screen.
  • Click the pencil icon to add a colour.
  • Select 'Add a colour'.
  • A colour picker will appear. You can choose any colour by selecting them or by inputting RGB codes. If your organisation has a branding guide, you can copy the RGB codes from there.
Fonts
LessonUp offers a fixed selection of fonts. Custom fonts cannot be added. Choose the font that best matches your organisation’s branding. Alternatively, upload text as an image if necessary.

Text and image components
Once your colour palette is ready, you can add text components in your chosen colours. Text components can be placed anywhere on a slide, independent of the layout.

How does it work?
  • Click on '+ Components' and then 'Text'.
  • Adjust the text in the box as desired, including colour, font, and size.
  • For advanced options, click the gear icon and then the pencil in the text box.
To add images, select '+ Components' and choose 'Image'. Use the gear icon for advanced image options.

🖼️ Use royalty-free materials

LessonUp is a platform where content is widely accessible. Always use royalty-free materials or those covered by Creative Commons licences.

Here are some useful websites for finding materials:
  • Freepik: High-quality photos, vectors, videos, and mockups
  • Unsplash: High-quality photos
  • Flaticon: Free icons
  • Forvo: Pronunciations in different languages, useful for language lessons
  • CC Search: A search engine for Creative Commons-licensed images

💡 Tip: If your organisation has proprietary images not covered by Creative Commons, you can still use them in your lessons. While teachers can save your lessons, they cannot download or copy the images, ensuring they remain within LessonUp.

⚠️ Note: Avoid using images showing identifiable people unless you have their permission.

Text placement

Consider what teachers and students will see on a shared screen. Avoid using full sentences on slides—opt for bullet points or keywords. Include additional details for the teacher in the notes.

💡 Tip: Avoid placing lesson titles behind the yellow banner on the title slide. Instead, position them in the centre, top left or top right.

✏️ User-friendly and neat

Copy and paste
For consistency, ensure repeated components are the same size and positioned identically across slides. Use the copy-paste function to save time.

How does it work?
  • Right-click the component you want to duplicate and select 'Copy Component'.
  • Paste it onto another slide. Components align with others automatically, indicated by a red line.

Create a base lesson
Develop a base lesson with your branding and frequently used components. Save these slides to your favourites, so they’re readily available for future lessons.

How do favourites work?
  • Save any lesson element (e.g., slide, video, or interactive component) as a favourite.
  • Design the element to your liking.
  • Click the black star icon to save it as a favourite.
  • To access your favourites, click 'Add' (or the grey box with the white cross), then select the blue 'Favourites' button in the top right.
