The Tenses

Verb tenses tell us how an action relates to the flow of time.

(Verb = Werkwoord)

I study.
I am studying.
I studied.

When?

He plays chess.

The plane lands in 5 minutes.

He asks the policeman for directions.

(1) To describe facts and habits:

1. Angela runs a youth club full of glue-sniffers. (Fact)

(2) To describe scheduled events in the future

1.     The train arrives at 5 o'clock.

(Yes, we know! It's supposed to be the present tense!)

The Negative Version

To create a negative sentence, use "do not" + [base form of the verb]. (Use "does not" with third person singular (he / she / it).)

I do not ride horses in the summer.

Present progressive( continuous)

The present progressive tense is used for an ongoing action in the present. For example:

They are painting the fence.

    We are moving to New Zealand in the summer.

    The train is arriving in 2 minutes.

Present continuous:

Present continuous

1. aan te geven dat iets NU aan de gang is. Signaalwoorden zijn o.a: "now, at the moment, listen..." enz.

2. aan te geven dat je iets van plan bent. Meestal staat er bij wanneer je in de toekomst dat van plan bent.

3. irritatie aan te geven

Maak de present continuous door: vorm van 'to be' (am/is/are) + ww+ ing
