Introductie

This learning technique is designed to help students “feel” their answers. By using visual and auditory aids when responding to questions—whether for an exam or a creative writing piece—you can inspire your class to feel connected to their subjects and make optimal use of their expressive knowledge.

Instructies

What is it?
Image and sound enhance the learning process by engaging multiple senses simultaneously. This makes students experience the material more consciously, allowing it to stick better. By combining visual and auditory aids, abstract concepts become more tangible, leading to a deeper understanding of the material. This improves concentration and engagement, resulting in more effective learning.
Visual elements alone can already spark the imagination, but when paired with complementary audio, students are encouraged to make full use of their expressive knowledge and become more present in the moment. This leads to more thoughtful answers and supports creativity.

How do you create it?
Create a simple question based on your lesson theme and use a suitable website to download and add thematic audio, images, GIFs, or videos to your slide while your class works on it. You’ll be amazed at how such simple steps can increase concentration and engagement!

How do you apply it?
The combination of images and sound can enrich your lesson at various moments, depending on the goal of the activity.

  • Preparation: Use an intriguing image, video, or sound to spark curiosity. For instance, what happens when you play fitting movie music as students enter the classroom? Add a captivating image, and you’ll immediately capture their attention.
  • Instruction: Create an atmosphere to add impact to your story. Teaching about how thunderstorms form? Amplify your instruction by letting thunder boom through the classroom at the right moment. This draws students into the lesson and also helps you set the right pace and intensity for the content.
  • Practice: While students work on an assignment, have them listen to relevant, calming music. How does this affect the classroom atmosphere, and what associations does it evoke for the students?

"Without this page, the gate to the World of Stories will never open again. No new stories will be told! And you won’t be able to return to your world either, Crumb. I almost don’t dare to ask," said King Book shyly, "but could you help us bring the page back and restore balance in the World of Stories?"
As wonderful as it was with King Book,
Crumb really wanted to go back home!
So he bravely set off.

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Students chose the king's voice on the previous slide.
On this slide, they can hear what the voice does to the atmosphere of a story.

Instead of reading the story out loud, you could place four different music clips under the audio buttons; this will also influence the students' experience.

Tip:
Divide the group into four.
Show them all the same image, but with different music clips.
Then sit with the group and discuss what the image is about.
How has the music shaped the students' perspective?
