Welke functie hebben and, but, or, so in een Engelse zin?

Sentences

Er zijn drie verschillende soorten zinnen in het Engels wat betreft lengte. 

(dus niet vragende, ontkennende en bevestigende zinnen).

Simple 
Compound
Complex

Simple sentence

Simple sentence: 

This is a very popular restaurant. 

Eén volledige zin met één onderwerp en één persoonsvorm. 

Compound sentence

Hoofdzin + hoofdzin:

The most northern European capital is Reykjavik and the most southern capital is Valletta.

Twee zinnen samengevoegd d.m.v. een voegwoord. 
Je kunt hiervoor de volgende voegwoorden gebruiken:
and / but / or / so.

Form an English sentence with the word 'but'.

Complex sentence

Hoofdzin + bijzin:
We hung out with each other. We were in the same class.
>  We hung out with each other when we were in the same class.

De zin is uitgebreid met een voegwoord en een bijzin. 
Mogelijke voegwoorden zijn: although, after, because, before, that, when, which, who. 

Voegwoorden

and = en

but = maar

or = of 

so = dus

Voegwoorden

although = hoewel              which = welke 

after = daarna                   who = wie/die
because = omdat

before = voor
that = dat
when = toen/wanneer

Form an English sentence with one of these conjunctions: although / when

I have two sisters, 

I've got my bag, 

Are we going by train

I've finished my dinner

It has just started raining

so we can go now.

or are we taking the bus?

but I don't have any brothers.

and I haven't got an umbrella.

and I'm still hungry.
