When to go
Madagascar has two seasons, a warm, wet season from November to April, and a cooler dry season between May and October. However, different parts of the country have very different weather.

The east coast is hotter and wetter, with up to 4000mm of rainfall per year. In the rainy season, there are strong winds, and these can cause a lot of damage.  Avoid visiting eastern Madagascar between January and March because the weather can make road travel very difficult.  The dry season is cooler and more pleasant.

The high, central part of the country is much drier and cooler. About 1,400 mm of rain falls in the rainy season, with some thunderstorms, but the summer is usually sunny and dry, but it can be cold, especially in the mornings, with freezing showers, and it may snow in mountain areas above 2,400m, and even stay there for several days.

The west coast is the driest part of the island. Here, the winter months are pleasant with little rain, cooler temperatures and blue skies.  The summers can be extremely hot, especially in the southwest.  This part of the country is semi-desert, and only gets around 300mm of rain per year.

What to bring?
If you plan to visit Holland in summer (June, July, August), you can expect a decent amount of sun and temperatures exceeding 20/25 degrees centigrade during the day. So pack shorts, T shirts, slippers and your bathing suit... The nights are still comfortable and usually not cold but you will still need something warmer, like a long-sleeved top or light jacket.

The temperature in spring and autumn (March, April, May and September, October, November) generally range between 10 and 20 degrees centigrade so you’ll mostly wear long trousers and a long-sleeved top or shirt.  On a sunny day it can be pleasantly warm and sometimes Bermuda shorts or a skirt will do.  So your needs may vary and you should come prepared.

What to bring?
During winter months (December, January, February) it is often quite cold. Temperatures often fall below freezing at night and during the day, it won’t get warmer than 10 degrees or remain below freezing. So bring warm clothes! Warm pullovers, trousers and a jacket and gloves, a shawl, hat and warm shoes for really cold days.

And finally: whatever season you choose to visit Holland, there may always be rain. A raincoat and boots can come in handy for a walk on the beach or in the forest.

The weather today is very cold. It’s just a few degrees above zero right now, and it’s probably going to snow. The sky is gray and cloudy.

Yesterday’s weather was like today’s. It was cold and cloudy, and then it snowed in the afternoon. In the evening, it got really, really cold. After midnight, the temperature was ten degrees below zero.

The winter in Minnesota is long and hard. Usually, the snow starts to fall in November and it stops falling in March. In April it melts. On average, there are five months of winter weather.

On days when it snows, the sky is dark and gray, but on days when the temperature goes below zero, it’s very sunny and the sky is clear and blue. Isn’t that interesting?
