Reported speech: verb changes (the ones we need)

Present simple > Past simple

Present continuous > Past continuous

Present perfect > Past perfect 

Past simple > Past perfect

Kim "I'll get some veggie burgers for the bbq"

Reported questions 

Direct question: "When are you going on holiday?"

Reported question: She asked when I was going on holiday.

Direct:"Are you related?"

Reported: He asked if/whether we were related.

Direct: "Who is that man?"

Reported: She asked who the man was.

What is the word order for the reported question?

Reported speech of this question is ...

When will they arrive? In reported speech = Kate asked.....

1. when they will arrive
2. when they would arrive
3. when will they arrive

Turn the question into a reported question

Don't forget the other reporting verbs:

1. Say, ask

2. offer, refuse, agree (+ to-infinitive)

3. ask, order, invite, tell, persuade ((+ object + to infinitive)

4. apologise for, suggest (+ noun or gerund)

3rd conditional form is .....
