Direct & Indirect (reported) speech

You use direct speech to repeat the direct words that someone has said. Sometimes these sentences are placed between quotation marks.

You use indirect/reported speech to retell what someone else has said. Because the sentences have already been spoken, reported speech is often in the past tense.  You also have to think about the possessive pronouns & change this accordingly.
