Conversation 1

Anna: Nowadays, everybody complains about traffic jams and poor public transport. It's really hard to find the best solution. As for me, whenever I travel to far-off places, I always choose this mode of transport. I think that's the best way to travel.
Bill: I agree. You can book your seat and they are quite clean and comfortable.
Anna: Yes, they also have a rack for your suitcases.
Bill: You can prepare things that you'll need on the trip in advance, such as snacks, drinks, your ticket, and a laptop to work on.
Anna: And what I really like about it is that you are not stuck at one place. You can get up, and take a short walk.
Bill: Sure. And they also tend to be safer than other means of transport.

Conversation 2

Anna: And how about you? What means of transport do you use on a daily basis?
Bill: Well, I'm the most environmentally-friendly person you can think of and I can always get where I need. And more importantly, it keeps me healthy and fit.
Anna: Oh, really? That's really awesome.
Bill: Yes. I know exactly how long it's going to take even in the rush hour. I don't depend on traffic at all.
Anna: Wow, that sounds like magic.
Bill: Yes. What's more, it gives me the chance to explore the city. The only disadvantage is the weather, though. I can't stand it when it's either too hot or it's raining.

Conversation 3

Anna: So, how do I get to work in the morning? I always start work at nine
Bill: That's not so bad. How long does it take you to get to your workplace?
Anna: Only twenty minutes. I take the number 15 for five stops. It takes me to right opposite the office building. It's really convenient.
Bill: Good for you. My wife takes the number 25 but then she has to change and catch the number 26. If I she misses it, she has to wait another 20 minutes.
Anna: Well, she should either change jobs or you should move house.
Bill: Yes, the morning traffic is killing her. She must figure out something. It can't go on like this in the future.

Conversation 4

Anna: I hear your son never uses public transport. He's really brave. There is so much traffic in the city. Does he wear a helmet?
Bill: Yes, of course. Always. He wouldn't dare without it. He has a set of helmets in all colours.
Anna: So, he can get anywhere quite fast, can't he?
Bill: Sure. If you know the best routes it's often faster than anything else because you can take the back streets and you don't get stuck in traffic jams.
Anna: I still wouldn't do it, though. It's way too dangerous.
Bill: Well, in most parts of the city they have separate lanes and car drivers are becoming more and more polite to them.

Conversation 5

Bill: And your husband? Does he still ride a bike?
Anna: No, not anymore. He's chosen a vehicle that's a lot more comfortable. But it's environmentally- friendly, though.
Bill: What do you mean?
Anna: It's a hybrid. It uses the battery at low speeds so it's very quiet and convenient to drive in the city.
Bill: Does he travel a lot on workdays? It must be mission impossible to find a parking space in the city centre. And what about driving in narrow streets?
Anna: Yes, it can be an absolute nightmare at times. And then you have to pay for the maintenance charges, the insurance, you need to change the tyres twice a year. But he couldn't do without it. Its benefits still outweigh its drawbacks.

Conversation 6

Bill: Did I tell you about my holiday plans?
Anna: No. Where are you going?
Bill: This year I am going to visit an old friend. I booked my ticket in advance. It's a lot cheaper this way. And I chose not to go direct, so I was able to save on that, too. I'll have a 5-hour layover, but it's no problem. You know... as long as you have Internet access.
Anna: Yes, sure. Do they serve food and drinks?
Bill: No, I don't think so. What I know is that your suitcase can't weigh more than 20 kilos. And, you can take only one bag with you.
Anna: Hm. I hope you'll have enough legroom at least.
